How does private midwifery differ from hospital care?

Private midwifery prioritises personalised, one-on-one care and is often provided in non-hospital settings like homes or birth centres. In contrast, hospital care involves a more clinical approach and is typically delivered within a hospital setting, where medical interventions are readily available. Private midwifery emphasises holistic, family-centred care.

What if there is a problem with my pregnancy?

At any time during your care if your midwife suspects something out of the ordinary, has any concerns or you are worried, you will be referred to seek further care. This care may be from a medical practitioner such as a GP, obstetrician, pediatrician, hospital team or another relevant specialist. We are completely confident to provide care that meets your needs and liaise very frequently with our collaborating hospitals and doctors.

Can I still have a private midwife if I plan a hospital birth?

Absolutely! Private midwives can be your lead carer in a hospital setting, ensuring you know your care provider during labour and birth. We have admitting rights to a variety of hospitals in Brisbane, Toowoomba and Melbourne. The midwives know your birth plan and provide continuous care throughout your hospital stay.

Are scans included in your services?

Unfortunately, we are not equipped to offer scans.

When should I start looking for a private midwife?

It's a good idea to start your search for a private midwife early in your pregnancy, ideally during the first trimester. This allows you to build a strong relationship and ensure comprehensive care throughout your entire journey. However, it's never too late to connect with a midwife who can provide valuable support.

When should I start looking for a private midwife?

During a consultation with a midwife, you can expect the midwife to take the time you need to explore your pregnancy, check on you and your baby and provide a welcoming and supportive environment. Your midwife will discuss your pregnancy history, health, and any questions or concerns you may have. They will explain the midwifery continuity of care model, share information about available services, and create a personalised care plan tailored to your needs and preferences.
